Emergency Surgery—Trauma Center

Emergency surgery is the surgical part of our hospital's national key clinical specialty construction project-emergency department. It consists of two parts: emergency outpatient department and ward. It is the trauma center of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University and the first Shandong provincial-level recognized by the National Health Commission Trauma center. There is a trauma intensive care unit (TICU) in the ward, which adapts to the requirements of modern trauma treatment in terms of organizational structure and diagnosis and treatment process, and is at the leading level in China. Emergency surgery is a standardized training base for residents, the first batch of vacuum sealing drainage technology VSD (Vacuum Sealing Drainage) training bases in the Ministry of Health’s “Ten Years Hundred Projects” plan, and a training base for VAC treatment technology for negative pressure on wounds (NPWT). It is the chairman unit of the Emergency Trauma Physician Branch of the Shandong Medical Doctor Association. It was awarded the "Excellent Specialist Branch" by the Shandong Medical Doctor Association for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019. In 2018, it became the National Health Commission's capacity building and continuing education orthopedic surgery committee-bone trauma ability training base. Emergency Surgery was established on June 1, 2008. At the beginning of its establishment, it undertook the trauma and first aid task of Qilu Hospital. Emergency surgery has opened up a green channel for patients with multiple injuries, formed emergency rescue room recovery, completed damage control surgery in operating room, perioperative trauma ICU monitoring life support, and created conditions for further definitive surgery. The treatment provided guarantee from the process system, formed the Qilu model of trauma treatment, and undertook a large number of multiple injury treatment tasks every year. The successful treatment of patients with rare steel penetrating injuries in June 2016 is a true manifestation of the success of this treatment model. In November 2018, emergency surgery passed the evaluation of the provincial trauma center organized by the Shandong Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission and became the first provincial trauma center in Shandong Province. Trauma ICU is an important and critical treatment unit to ensure operation, and it is also one of the indispensable elements of all trauma centers. The annual number of emergency surgery visits exceeds 20,000, of which trauma patients account for about 50%. The number of ward surgeries from 2017 to 2019 exceeds more than 2,000 operations, and the annual average number of severe trauma patients (ISS> 16 points) exceeds 500. On May 2, 2018, another 34-bed emergency neurosurgery ward (equipped with a 22-bed neurocritical ICU) officially opened. With the expansion of emergency surgery wards, the business volume and diagnosis and treatment level of emergency surgery will enter a new Steps. Currently, there are 31 doctors and 65 nurses, including 2 chief physicians, 7 associate chief physicians, 11 senior physicians, 4 junior physicians, and 7 residents; and 10 physician standardized training instructors. Emergency Surgery/Orthopedic Traumatology (Trauma Center) accepts training doctors in trauma orthopedics, neurosurgery, general surgery, emergency surgery and emergency department all the year round. As a training base, we accept various forms of training doctors every month. Emergency Surgery undertakes five-year undergraduate teaching, seven-year and eight-year postgraduate teaching and internship tasks at Shandong University School of Medicine. Emergency Surgery undertakes 2 national natural topics, 12 provincial-level topics, and 5 mountain university topics. Emergency surgery published 25 nuclear A articles, 1 special grade, 17 SCI articles, 3 national invention patents, and 5 utility model patents. Emergency Surgery, as the main committee unit of the Emergency Trauma Physician Branch of the Shandong Medical Association, holds the annual meeting of emergency trauma physicians in Shandong Province (and the emergency trauma summit forum) and the neurosurgery conference every year. At the same time, it also actively carries out department visits and international exchanges. Emergency Surgery In order to improve the clinical skills of orthopedic trauma surgeons in Shandong Province, special technical trainings such as intramedullary nail technology, pelvic and acetabular fractures, negative pressure and debridement techniques are also carried out every year. In order to adapt to the changes in the energy spectrum of injury caused by the development of society, emergency surgery is also to adapt to the requirements of aging, and actively carry out clinical research on elderly trauma under the framework of the society. At present, the "Shandong University Qilu Hospital MDT Team for Elderly Trauma" has been established.
