Cardiovascular Surgery

The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, was founded in 1959 and was the first such specialty in Shandong Province. Over the past 60 years, through the exploration and efforts of four generations, a professional department with huge advantages and academic characteristics has been formed. The medical level and work scale are among the top general hospitals in the country, and enjoy a high reputation in China. The provincial cardiovascular surgery profession is in an absolute leading position, and has contributed to the development of cardiovascular surgery in our province and our country.

Cardiovascular surgery is mainly composed of three parts: outpatient, general ward and intensive care unit. There are more than 120 beds in the F8C ward, F8D ward and F4D care unit, including 23 beds in the intensive care unit.there are 5 dedicated operating rooms (including 1 "one-stop" operating room), which will become the largest cardiovascular surgery center in shandong and  will also be one of the tops in the our country. The scope of treatment for cardiovascular surgical diseases includes: various congenital heart diseases, rheumatic or other caused heart valve disease, aortic aneurysm and other macrovascular diseases, heart tumors, coronary heart disease requiring coronary artery bypass, constrictive pericarditis, arrhythmia, etc., as well as severe damage to heart function caused by various reasons, requiring heart transplantation. The annual number of inpatients is more than 3,000, the annual number of outpatients is more than 7,000, the annual average number of operations is more than 2,000, the annual rescue and treatment of critically ill patients is more than 200, the annual number of consultations in the province is more than 100, and the annual operation volume ranks among the best in the country. This major was identified as a master's training center in 1978, and was identified as a doctoral training center in 1990. In 1999, it was identified as a mobile station for post-doctoral researchers and accepted post-doctoral researchers to enter the station for research work.

(1) Physician team

There are currently 40 doctors, including 12 professors, 6 associate professors, 15 attending physicians, and 7 residents. Including 3 doctoral supervisors and 10 master supervisors. All of physicians under 55 years old have a doctorate degree. Ten people went to the United States, Australia, Japan, Italy, Germany, the former Soviet Union and other countries to study for 1-2 years. Two people enjoy the special government allowances of the State Council, and two of them were awarded the titles of Advanced Individual in Scientific and Technological Work in Shandong Province, Top-notch Professional and Technical Talents in Shandong Province, and Top-notch Young Professional and Technical Talents in the Academy. There are 3 people serving as or concurrently serving as standing members of the Chinese Medical Association Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Branch, members of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Branch of the Chinese Physician Association, and Shandong Provincial Medical Association Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Professional Committee, Shandong Provincial Medical Association Organ Transplantation Branch and Shandong Provincial Medicine The post of the chairman of the Society of Hypothermic Medicine Branch, and another 6 people served in societies and magazines such as the Chinese Medical Association Organ Transplant Branch, the Chinese Medical Association Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Branch, Shandong Medical Association Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Branch, Shandong Medical Association, "Clinical Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery", "Shandong Medicine", "Chinese Journal of Extracorporeal Circulation", "Progress in Modern Cardiovascular Surgery".

(2) Clinical work

Cardiovascular surgery always puts the interests of patients in the first place, and takes the pursuit of technological development and progress as its work objective. From simple heart surgery such as arterial catheter ligation during the establishment of the department, to deep hypothermia and open heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass, to now the surgical treatment and methods of diseases such as complicated congenital heart disease, critical heart valve disease, coronary heart disease, and even heart transplantation, the clinical work of cardiovascular surgery has always been at the domestic advanced level. Now there are 7-8 cardiovascular surgeries every working day. In the past 10 years, on the basis of the original work, we have successively carried out minimally invasive heart surgery such as small axillary arterial catheter ligation, beating heart mitral valve replacement, ventricular defect repair, and minimally invasive interventional surgery for congenital heart disease, total thoracoscopic valve replacement surgery, multiple valve replacement surgery for critical heart valve disease, surgical treatment of small weight and complex congenital heart diseases, such as Aortic arch interruption, single ventricle, transposition of the great arteries, complete pulmonary venous drainage and other orthopedic surgery, coronary artery bypass surgery, and other concurrent heart disease surgery, pre-excitation syndrome and other arrhythmia surgical treatment, thoracic aortic aneurysm and main A series of difficult operations such as arterial dissection separation artificial blood vessel transplantation, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI operation), and heart transplantation. In recent years, coronary artery bypass graft surgery has been carried out on a large scale, with an annual operation volume of nearly 600 cases, providing a large number of coronary heart disease patients with surgical treatments with high success rate and reliable long-term efficacy. The average annual operation volume of aortic dissection surgical treatment has reached more than 200 cases. In the past 8 years, nearly 20 awards have been awarded for successful rescue of critically ill patients with the development of new technologies in the hospital. From the early anatomical correction, to the comprehensive consideration of anatomy and hemodynamics, anatomy and function, heart (lung) and the whole body, experience and innovation, the level of technology has been continuously improved.

(3) Academic exchanges and technical cooperation

Cardiovascular surgery implements a collaborative approach of inviting in and going out to strengthen foreign exchanges and cooperation. In the 1970s and 1980s, two experts were successively sent to Tanzania Capital Hospital to help carry out work, and achieved good results and were commended by the Ministry of Health. Seven doctors have successively studied in the United States, the former Soviet Union, Italy, Germany and other countries. After returning to China, they have greatly promoted the development of clinical work. Experts from the United States, the former Soviet Union, Australia, Italy and other countries have been invited to the institute for more than 20 academic exchanges. In 2001, the former chairman of the European Society of Cardiovascular Surgery and Professor Biglioli of the University of Milan, Italy, was invited to the hospital to give lectures and conduct surgical demonstrations and instructions, and was hired as a visiting professor by Shandong University. In 2003, a cardiac surgery expert team led by Dr. Low, a cardiac surgery expert at Hartford Hospital in the United States, was invited to our hospital. 40 people attended international academic conferences held in the United States, Germany, Australia, Malaysia, Italy and other countries.

(4) Talent training

Since the enrollment of master's students in 1978, more than 80 master's students have been trained; since 1990, doctoral students have been recruited and trained, and more than 30 doctoral students have been trained. In 2002, the first post-doctoral researcher completed the research work and left the station. Graduated master students, doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers who have left the station have become business backbones or business leadership in different positions, and some have been selected as master students or doctoral tutors. Now we train 4-6 master students and 2-4 doctoral students every year. There are strict and specific training plans and perfect training measures to ensure the quality of talent training. Encourage working doctors to study for postgraduate degrees and go abroad for further studies. In addition, the Shandong branch of the China Cardiovascular Surgery Technical Training Center was established in our hospital in 1989. It accepts 3-5 advanced doctors every year. Up to now, it has trained nearly 30 cardiovascular surgeons for prefecture-level hospitals.
