On October 8, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University held the 2023 Qilu Neuroscience Forum &Qilu Guangzhi Forum (No. 65). Yi Fan, Vice President of Shandong University and Dean of Cheeloo College of Medicine, Chen Yuguo, President of Qilu Hospital, and Prof. Li Xingang, Dean of the Institute of Brain and Brain-Inspired Sciences of Shandong University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The opening ceremony was hosted by Cheng Yufeng, Vice President of Qilu Hospital.

At the opening ceremony, Yi Fan expressed a warm welcome to the arrival of Prof. Rolf and his team. Yi Fan pointed out that the university attaches great importance to medical scientific research, and set up the Institute of Brain and Brain-Inspired Sciences in 2017, which committed to creating a world-class scientific research center. The Institute has led the integrated development of multiple disciplines and made contributions to accelerating the "double first-class" construction of the university. We believe that with Prof. Rolf joining us, brain research will become more pragmatic and open, and achieve more impressive results.

Chen Yuguo pointed out in his speech that the hospital adheres to the global path and integrates into the global medical innovation cooperation and development in all aspects. This forum is the first international academic conference held physically by the hospital after the COVID-pandemic. Based on Qilu Hospital, the Institute of Brain and Brain-inspired Sciences of Shandong University strengthens cooperation with several colleges of the university, and has achieved a series of important results in the fields of neurodegenerative diseases, brain tumors, and cerebrovascular diseases, making contributions to the development of neuroscience in China and abroad.

Li Xingang reviewed the development history of brain research in Shandong University, introduced the team building, platform construction and research results of the Institute of Brain and Brain-Inspired Sciences, and pointed out that the international cooperation and exchanges of the Institute, especially the cooperation with Prof. Rolf, had played an important role and made outstanding contributions to promoting the construction and development of the Institute.

The signing and appointment ceremony of Prof. Rolf Bjerkvig, the Norwegian academic master in the field of neuro-oncology, as a part-time chair professor of Shandong University was held at the meeting.

The forum invited top experts in the field of neuroscience at home and abroad, focusing on the latest research progress and future development trend of neuroscience, which provids valuable exchange opportunities for online and physical attendees. The academic forum consisted of two parts: expert lectures and youth forum. In the expert lecture session, Prof. Rolf Bjerkvig gave a detailed introduction of the development of a therapeutic molecule (CyPep-1) and its journey from basic research to clinical trials and back again, which provided valuable experience for the participants; Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Dr. Michael Siu discussed the differential expression of proteins in cancer and their identification and quantification methods; Prof. Frits Thorsen from the University of Bergen, Norway shared the impact of Notch pathway regulation in astrocytes on the progression of brain metastasis of melanoma; Prof. Wang Xiuying from the University of Sydney, Australia gave a lecture entitled "Artificial Intelligence for Artificial Intelligence for Multimodal Brain Image Processing and Analysis". Prof. Song Dong from University of Southern California, USA, presented a report "Towards a Hippocampal Memory Prosthesis", discussing the research progress of hippocampal memory prosthesis, which is of great significance for the deep understanding of the mechanism of human memory and the treatment of related diseases; Prof. Kang Chunsheng from the General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, China, presented the research progress from a molecular point of view. Chunsheng discussed how P4HA1/Succinate promotes glycolysis in gliomas through succinylation of PGK1 from a molecular point of view; and Prof. Jian Wang from Qilu Hospital shared the progress of gene-edited iPSC-derived CAR-macrophages applied in the field of tumor immunotherapy.

In the Youth Forum session, Prof. Thomas Daubon from the University of Bordeaux, France, shared his insights on how glioblastoma cells adapt to new metabolic ways when growing in the brain; Researcher Liu Fuchen from Qilu Hospital reported on how to simulate neurological disorders by using neural cells derived from iPSCs; Researcher Zhang Di brought the latest research on how the "gut" controls sleep, which provided us with a new perspective on the regulation of brain function from the gut; and Researcher Chen Anjing reported the progress of CCT2 in the direction of inhibiting glioblastoma from the perspective of targeting molecules. Postdoctoral fellows Zhang Yulin and Tang Qilin from Qilu Hospital shared their research progress on the topics of "Localized nanomedicine strategies and practices for brain tumors" and "Deep brain stimulation with ultrasound-responsive piezoelectric nanoparticles for epilepsy", respectively, which showed the research achievements and new developments of young scientists in the hospital.
Prof. Wang Donghai, Chairman of the Forum and Director of Neurosurgery Department of Qilu Hospital, summarized the meeting. Wang Donghai summarized the main academic viewpoints and research progress of the forum, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the organizing committee of the conference to the domestic and foreign experts who came from afar, and sincerely invited the participating experts to the next conference.
The convening of this forum provided a good academic exchange platform for experts and scholars in the field of neuroscience at home and abroad, improved China's international influence in the field of neuroscience, further promoted the progress of neuroscience in Qilu Hospital, and injected new vitality into the internationalization of the hospital.

Relevant staff of Neurosurgery Department, International Office, and Personnel Department of Qilu Hospital, as well as staff of the Institute of Brain and Brain-Inspired Sciences of Shandong University attended the meeting.
