Recently, a surge in clusters of local covid-19 cases across the country challenged the prevention and control work in Shandong province. Facing the grave situation, medical staff of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University adhere to the life supremacy principle, making every effort to treat patients, especially special groups, including cancer and blood dialysis patients who need regular treatment, patients who need emergency and critical care, expectant mothers, elder people, and children. Every medical worker is fulfilling the doctor’s vows to respect lives, and saves patients with dedication and love, with which people’s lives and health were preserved.

Medical staff of the Department of Emergency Medicine in Qilu Hospital are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Recently, an ambulance raced by with sirens wailing. A nurse of the Department of Emergency Medicine immediately rushed to examine the patient. The first-aid personnel told her the patient was in critical condition and needed an urgent surgery, for he/she had a fever and racing heart rate and was clinically diagnosed with peritonitis and dilated cardiomyopathy. While examining the patient, medical staff asked family members of the patient, knowing that they came from medium- or high-risk areas and did not have negative nucleic acid certificates within 24 hours.
Without a negative nucleic acid certificate? Save the life first! The patient cannot wait! Department of Emergency Medicine adhered to the life supremacy principle, performing prompt first aid treatment at the isolation room at the department.
Experts from relevant departments came as soon as possible, performing first aid after taking precautions, and before that, Department of Emergency Medicine had contacted Department of Laboratory Medicine to do the nucleic acid testing and preoperative tests. Although during the pandemic, nothing could hinder our medical staff from saving patients, and once again, they succeeded.

Staff of Department of Emergency Medicine are on call 24 hours a day, shouldering their responsibilities and making every effort to save patients. If you are in critical condition, please call 120 immediately and do not hide anything when doctors asking about your history. Do believe in us, we will do our best to help you and never give up.

People first! Life first! Under the grave and complicated situation, as the leading and main construction unit of the national regional medical center, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University will take responsibilities to save patients in critical conditions, and arrange medical treatment properly for special groups, doing its best to preserve people’s life and health.
