From October 8 to 9, Professor Chen Yuguo, President of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, led a delegation to Singapore. During the visit, Professor Chen attended the Singapore-Shandong Collaboration Conference on High-Level Openness and held discussions with SingHealth, Duke-NUS Medical School and its affiliated academic medical institutions, aiming to expand exchanges and collaborations with local hospitals, universities, and research institutes.
On the morning of October 9, Professor Chen attended the opening ceremony of the "2024 Singapore-Shandong Week" and the Singapore-Shandong Collaboration Conference on High-Level Openness. Witnessed by Zhou Naixiang, Vice Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the CPC and Governor of Shandong Province, and Chee Hong Tat, Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, as well as Co-Chair of the Singapore-Shandong Economic and Trade Council, Professor Chen Yuguo, on behalf of Qilu Hospital, and Dr. Kwek Yong Chiang, Group Chief Executive Officer of SingHealth and CEO of Singapore General Hospital, signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement as one of the first batch of key collaborative projects. This signing marks a practical step by Shandong Province to promote high-level opening-up and is a recognition by the Shandong Provincial Government of the substantial progress made in talent development and academic exchanges between the two sides over the past year. It holds significant milestone importance for further advancing comprehensive cooperation. Moving forward, Qilu Hospital and SingHealth will vigorously promote the implementation of collaborative initiatives in platform co-construction, talent development, academic exchanges, and scientific research, aiming to yield high-quality outcomes and contribute to the advancement of medical science and technology innovation in both countries.
At the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), the delegation held discussions with Dr. Toh Han Chong, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of NCCS, and Dr. Michael Wang, Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology. Both sides exchanged views on the development positioning, planning concepts, and design layout of the medical center, reaching preliminary cooperation intentions. The Singaporean side highly commended Qilu Hospital’s remarkable achievements in building a high-level open environment and fostering an internationalized talent-cultivating ecosystem, expressing their commitment to strengthening exchanges and collaborations to produce more high-quality outcomes. Following the meeting, the delegation toured the center’s infrastructure facilities and met with Christine Low, Director of Operations Planning and Strategic Infrastructure, and her team. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on hospital architectural design, functional zoning, traffic flow, and operational models. The delegation also visited the center’s proton therapy facility.
At Duke-NUS Medical School, the delegation met with Professor Ong Eng Hock, Director of Health Services and Systems Research of Dukd-NUS Medical School, Director of the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Centre at the Ministry of Health Singapore, and Senior Consultant at Singapore General Hospital. Both sides discussed disciplinary development, preclinical research collaboration, results sharing, and the advancement of cutting-edge technologies, while also planning for joint international academic activities. Professor Chen expressed his gratitude to Professor Ong and his team for their long-standing support and assistance to Qilu Hospital. He noted that the two sides have a long history of collaboration and a solid foundation in scientific innovation. Professor Chen expressed hope that this meeting would serve as an opportunity to leverage their respective strengths and complement each other’s advantages, injecting new vitality into the hospitals’ achievements in transforming research results and the development of new productive forces.
At the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS), the delegation held discussions with Dr. Tan Wee Jack, Deputy Group Chief Operating Officer of SingHealth. Both sides introduced their respective institutions and engaged in in-depth discussions on scientific research collaboration, talent development, and institutional operations, forming preliminary plans for future cooperation. Both parties agreed to continue leveraging the positive momentum of the Qilu Hospital-SingHealth collaboration platform, fully utilizing the role of medical management and scientific innovation as bridges and bonds to promote practical cooperation. They also explored new areas of collaboration, aiming to establish a robust symbiotic relationship through high-level cooperation and become a model of mutually beneficial collaboration in the international health sector. Following the meeting, the delegation visited the Singapore General Hospital campus.
Professor Xu Feng, Vice President of Qilu Hospital, Professor Lian Xuehong, Assistant President, and representatives from the National Medical Center Construction Office, the Department of International Affairs, and the Department of Emergency Medicine accompanied the delegation and participated in related activities.
